Copying DVDs to backup

August 5th, 2016

I have a reasonable collection of DVDs, but when I move out to uni digs in september, I don’t want to risk damaging all my precious discs! Is there a way I can copy them all, menus, features and all, and essentially make duplicates?
This would also give me the added benefit of being able to post around 50 DVD-Rs in the movie forums… Thanks in advance…

Yes there are numerous programs for this, dvdshrink comes highly recommended and where this fails, and it will be few, I recommend DVD-fab Platinium or gold version, can be found in the appz section. Dvd-fab will do the trick on its own though, but I just think that dvdshrink was the best tool ever made for this, and its just a pitty that its not being updated anymore, so some of the newer copy-protection will out wit it, especially “sony” discs.

You need 2 programs one to decrypt it and one reduce the size of the movie so that i will fit on a 4.3 gb disc(movie discs sometimes hold more)
1) Use a program like DVDfab to bring onto your hard drive 2)Use DVD Shrink to Then reduce it
DVD Shrink can not always handle modern Protection but dvdfab will take care of that part

Well, I’ve got a spindle of 25 dual layer discs just waiting to be used…
If its just a normal 4.3 gig disc though, I won’t need to shrink it at all will I? I can just copy to my hard-drive and burn it using nero or something?

CloneDVD2 is the best in my opinion. Fast too. No need to shrink anything.

Yes that is correct. You can also put 1 movie onto 2 disc if you want to keep the original quality

Will it allow you to do it all at once eg shrink and decrypt?
Answer #7
Yes. I suggest getting AnyDVD and running it in the background (disables region and security stuff) and then just run CloneDVD2.

Actually, just had another idea. I’ve got a free trial with a internet dvd rental service, so I’m guessing it would be possible for me to copy each of these, burn them to my dvds, and substantially increase my dvd collection for a fraction of the cost… Anyway, to keep the original quality, on either DVD-5, or DVD-9 (as I believe the two types are called) I simply copy an image onto my hard drive using one of the programs listed above, make sure I have the right size of disc, then burn using a program of my choice, in my case, nero. Sorry to sound so clueless, I just want to get it right…those DVDs are expensive, you know!

Thats what I did with Netflix.
