Computer Shuts down with Media Player
July 26th, 2016
I have xp pro sp1 and no other updates, could this be a virus (please note that this pc is not connected to the net and doesnt have an antivirus, however i transfer files from a pc that is connected to the net)?
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/sp2/default.mspx
First, Download and transfer/install SP2 on the PC with the problem as well as the latest drivers for its video card.
Then, test it out again. If you see the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) again, please write down the error message at the bottom.
Thanks im on it!! ill let you know what occurs
i installed sp2 and mediaplayer 11 and still the same thing occurs BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) . I really dont know whats going on, Do you recon a format and reinstallation of windows will do the trick? or shall i install an antivirus before hand to test it?, Thanks In Advance!
Please, use the EDIT button instead of double posting!
Thanks ~ hecos
i would recomend formating if you dont have alot of stuff on your cp
Hello again, Here is the Solution. Yes i did reformat the hard disk (thanks garrett30328) and everything works fine now. The problem was the klite codec pack, before i even started with the format i tried to unistall klite codec pack but despite that the problem still remained. After the format i installed all of the apps that i previously had excluding the codec pack. I hope this helps people that may encounter this type of problem. I seems that the codec pack conflicts the graphics card but i do not understand why??
Thank you all for your feedback!
Yes codec packs can cause conflicts and as you say maybe with certain graphics cards..
May be a good idea to use VLC media player (freeware) which comes with it’s needed codecs so you should not have a problem then and can stay away from codec packs
Thanks mate! its a cool player indeed! Merry Christmas
