Can’t switch between Nvidia and Intel

October 3rd, 2020

I can’t get windows to read my Nvidia graphic card .. It always reads Intel graphic in CPU-Z and in DirectX Diagnostic Tool although I don’t think I have a problem with any drivers as I suppose. I even choose Nvidia Processor in NVIDIA Control panel as You can see in the screenshot.. While searching I read about some feature in Nvidia graphic cards called nvidia optimus .. But no one addressed how can I turn it off !! .. I also tried to override it from BIOS but it don’t have an option to choose preferred vga Image

I have HP Pavilion 15-n245se laptop with Core i7 processor and 8gb ram and Nvidia Geforce 740M graphic card.
Thanks in advance.

Some programs just don’t understand that there’s two graphics “cards” in a system and they default to the on-cpu (onboard) one.
I’ve noticed this when i use nvidia right-click “run with nvidia gpu”, and it still runs with the Intel one.
Optimus is the auto selector – it works well and I don’t recommend you disable it. You can force it to use NV gpu (some versions of MPC-HC have to run wioth NV gpu for shaders to work properly), but it doesn’t gaurantee the program WILL – it still depends on the program in some cases.
If you can run games and such on the Nv gpu then why worry?
If even games only see the Intel gou then you do have problems – maybe faffing about with optimus has done it?
I suggest: grab DDU (display driver uninstaller). Make sure you have full Intel gpu driver AND NV drivers.
Boot (turn optimus back on if you have it off in bios) to safe mode, rip out BOTH intel and Nv driver, reboot and reinstall them, Intel first then NV.
Reboot as needed between drivers.
Answer #2
gpu-z should show both, it does on mine
i did have a problem initially. i 1st installed nvidia card when i installed win 7 and later wanted to use the intel gfx but i could not get the intel gfx to work when the nvidia card was installed. windows kept saying that there were insufficient resources available and would only show a low res screen. I cleaned the nvidia drivers and after that it all worked okay.

Thanks guys for help ..
I’ll try to reinstall and give my feedback later.
Answer #4
……………….
wrong.
nvidia control panel
set physx config
choose the nvidia GPU.
have a good life
Answer #5
I tried to reinstall drivers but It didn’t work out .. I still have the same problem ..
Games works well but I guess they work on the Intel graphic like pes for example Image
I also have some lag in some games when I maximize graphics, is that because its running on internal graphic card or because of low processor clock speed ?

i didn’t check all your pictures for this, but are you on windows 8?
From what I can see in many other forums, it’s a definite issue with win 8 and dual gpu (intel + nvidia).
Answer #7
clearly that he has win8 from the screen
also clearly he’s ignoring my msg..

I don’,t and won’t, use win8, so i didn’t recognise the screens as w8.
According to my searches, there are a lot of forums with this same question and they all refer to W8.
It might be an issue with W8 OR it might just be an “odd” setting that needs changing to make W8 see the gpu.
W8 is an operating system for kiddies and people afraid of computers.. anything useful is hidden DEEP inside it, often even manual registry changes..

Maybe I’ll try to use windows 7 and see if there’s any difference .. But ain’t there any performance advantages for windows 8 over windows 7 ?
I mean will I get the same performance and speed as windows 8 on windows 7 ?
