Can I convert MP4 files into .mkv firmat ?

Can I make the file size of a MP4 file smaller by converting them into a mkv file ? How can I do it and what is the software I have to use ? Thanks ! Please help me !
( I have this Wrestling PPV in an MP4 file [AVC digital delboy version] — I just want to convert it to mkv )

not if you want to keep the quality halfway decent unless the MP4 is high deff or HQ
then you can make it into mkv. you can use super (its a fast and reliable encoder)
or megui (very basic and good encoder)
or
bencos ( a great encoder for LQ)
to keep the quality better you can lower the resolution and keep the bit rate near the value of when you started if you want to make it smaller
but if you keep everything the same you wont save much space because they both use the same compression ratio and codec

Like said, MP4 and MKV are similar formats. You cannot make it smaller without loosing quality.

you can even do that without conversion. YOu need to export raw streams (video/audio) and then join then together with MKVToolnix…
For exporting streams (demuxing) google for “mp4 demux” or something like that

All thats sounds pretty complicated guys… maybe if you use a video convertor like Videora or any standard retail one? Just type convertor into search.

complicated, but extremly fast…
speed depens on your harddrive’s read and write speed, the conversion is skipped
