BIG USB modem disconnection problem!

January 26th, 2020

Hi,
I have a NETGEAR RangeMax USB 2.0 WPN111 modem.
Problem:
everytime i connect the modem to any of my usb ports on my computer, it automatically disconnects after a few seconds. It won’t work when i try repairing it after disconnection. I always have to take out the device and connect it back to make it work (for a few seconds at least). I’ve installed the latest drivers for it.
When it occurred and possible causes (theories):
This only started occurring after i took out all of my parts out of my old tower, and put it in my new tower and reformatted my computer. Is it something to do with how i plugged the tower leds/wires onto my motherboard?
What I’ve tried
I’ve googled this problem which lead to other forums saying that the problem is very common and it can’t be solved. I hope it can be solved.

Answer #1
Is it not possible to use an ethernet cord?
Answer #2
i want to buy an ethernet cord. but i want to fix this first. the main problem is that it worked fine before. I’m just wondering how it suddenly started doing this. my computer is the same, its just that i changed towers. so i have no idea what to do.
if it cant be fixed within a few days, ill probably buy an ethernet cord that connects to my router in the lounge room.

Sorry, didn’t read your original post.
Do you have it’s software installed?
If you do, follow these instructions.

If you don’t have any software installed for your device, simply install this.
Remembering not to plug in the USB device until the software is fully installed and rebooted, or it tells you to plug it in.

Good luck D:
Answer #4
i already have the software installed, along with the latest drivers. but thanks anyway
EDIT and note: When i tried using the usb modem on my dad’s computer it worked fine. I also tried it on my sister’s laptop and her usb port is 1.1 (like my ports) and it also worked 100% fine for her…
So its definitely not the product… its something to do with my computer…
Answer #5
It’s a good idea to reinstall things sometimes anyway.. Unless you already have, then ignore.
Lol, we can fix it! (That is, unless it’s the stick itself that’s being faulty.. then maybe not )
What OS are you running?
Answer #6
im running on XP pro (32bit i think).
oh yeah i edited my previous post. so the stick is not faulty… so that means… its my computer, possibly my motherboard… well, time to get my baseball bat out hehe ive tried installing the software 100 times already too lol.
Answer #7
I’m pretty stumped to be honest.
Is the modem for dial up, or broadband?
Answer #8
i use a wireless usb modem. which connects (wirelessly) to a broadband modem in my lounge room. so its definitely for broadband. its not interference or range problems.
its pretty common i guess, so theres really no point to be stumped lol. but i guess your pretty new to this
