Best tool to record TV with PC TV tuner card

August 2nd, 2016

Hi all
I need a tool to record movies, i have an Hauppauge WinTV-PVR-250 ( I know it’s not the newest card out here).
http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_pvr250.html
The problem is, i used Windows Media center to record, but 30 min = 4GB And the quality is super bad Any suggestions ? Maybe new codecs or something ?
Thanks

Hey, I have that in the back of my PC!
.. It made my computer lag though, so I disabled it in the device manager.
Sorry, don’t know anything about recording from it though, sorry.

i would also like to know lol. i used to use media center. the files sizes was small and perfect quality the only downside is that you had to use a convertor because it saved them in some dodgy file format. you could try nero i know that has a built in recoder but it just woudlnt detect a signal for me

have you tried nero ? i think you can watch tv on that, altho im not 100% sure as the last time i used nero was about 2 year ago.
Answer #7
use the driver and the recording software included with the card. i have winfast tv2000xp a very old tv tuner card. just updated its software and its recording output seems nice. tried nero live and media center with came out really bad.

You should always record in transport stream (TS) format as that is the only way you can correct any sync problems if they occur. Conversion is usually done later if necessary as it is rarely possible to encode video well on the fly. TS is just a package of the broadcast source file with no re-encoding. The files can get fairly big depending upon whether they are HD or SD, H264 or Mpeg2 etc.

search the apps section for “PVR” or “Personal Video Recorder”
2 I’ve used in the past for non-hi-def content
WinVDR PRO – Real-Time Video Capture Recorder (PVR) (AVI format)

Mainconcept PVR v1.1.4 (Personal Video Recorder) (MPEG format)

setting the bit rate will lower the file size
winfast tv2000xp
I also have this card and use their software now but it will only work on winfast cards

I am trying the WinVDR Pro now

I am trying the WinVDR Pro now
I used divx with deinterlacing enabled in the codec and not the apps deinterlacing function
and set it to around 2000-3000 for bitrate
think that got me to about a gig or under per hour
