Im after something to edit the first 1min of an avi. Like i want to cut it out of the avi alltogether

Any movie editor will do the trick.
Something wrong with Google?
I use Adobe After Effects.

What kind of recommendations do you want? Any editor will fill your request.
Your doing the most basic of operations, cutting out 1 minute of a video file…
If you elaborate on what your doing, maybe other will then provide you with better suggestions.

With or without re-encoding?
Without re-encoding you won’t get a frame accurate cut, although for Mpeg4 ASP avi’s it can get very close to the frame you want to cut, the nearest keyframe.

in AVI demux you do with smart copy, it recodes just the between key frames part
AVIdemux is best at keeping audio in sync and no full recoding in copy mode
