I would say that Auto Gordian Knot is your best choice but DVDfab isn’t a bad option either. Good luck mate ^_^
Answer #2
Can you tell me if all of them allow me choose the codec to convert the movie?
Answer #3
I don’t know much about them but I usually use WinAVI Video Converter and it allows the user to choose which codecs to use. Good luck mate ^_^
Answer #4
WinAVI Video Converter is better than the ones i said?

It’s a matter of taste. I’m using it because I like it and it’s easy to use. All three applications will probably produce similar results. Good luck mate ^_^
Answer #6
ok. i will make some tests…
thanks!

AutoGK is fairly easy to use. You can choose between DivX and XDiv (most popular) video codecs.
Try pressing CTRL F9 after you have loaded the source file to reveal the hidden options. AutoGK does a fairly good job but it is a bit basic for my taste. Gordian Knot is more advanced.
These are the benchmark programs to use doing everything necessary for good rips. I personally do not like the resolution restrictions (only able to select horizontal resolution with vertical set automatically ) in AutoGK as they are not what I would select.
I personally do not like the one click commercial do it all programs as they usually perform badly in my tests. I prefer total control of the encoding and usually do completely manual encoding (audio/video file preparation, script preparation, manual cropping and then codec setup and encoding) the things you don’t see when doing AutoGK encoding but do see some of it in Gordian Knot.
For the very best results you just cannot do it automatically as it is far too limited.

, I completely agree with you… I used AutoGK few years ago and now i need rip a movie again. And i want use Divx6.8. But autogk dont only allow me choose the resolution, and when the encoding start gives a error because the automatic resolution isnt allowed by the encoder…
I dont know the Gordian Knot, but will search for it…
Answer #9
Why do you need to use DivX 6.8? XVid should be able to do anything that DivX can do. It may well be far less compatible with standalone DVD players and if so your rips will not be liked by many people, including me as that is the main reason for using XDiv for me.
Answer #10
AutoGK FTW!!! It might be a bit dainty at first but when you get used to it it really fast and easy to set up your conversions. It gives really good quality rips for size…
Answer #11
divx is faster than xvid isnt it?
Answer #12
If it was faster, then why do almost every scene group use XDiv rather than DivX, especially when getting releases out before other groups is a priority?
Answer #13
you are right. i tested xvid right now and i get high fps. Do you know what software the scene groups use?
Answer #14
I don’t know for certain as I am not a member of any group.
But most likely the same programs that everyone uses but in different combinations.
VirtualDub
VirtualDubMod
AviSynth
AvsP script editor with preview for easy scripting
NandDub
DGIndex
ProjectX
DVDRipping software such as AnyDVD or DVDDecrypter or something like that.
Most freeware conversion software uses these programs. AutoGK, Gordian Knot, Super etc
Some may make custom AviSynth scripts (I do)
Answer #15
you dont want share your AviSynth scripts?
Answer #16
No I do not.
There are piles of example scripts to experiment with on the web. Check the AviSynth website for lots of information on all the inbuilt commands and addons. It’s the thing to use to do any video editing/encoding/conversion. I recommend you get yourself AvsP editor to make it a lot easier.
