Another electronics question

August 5th, 2016

I have a power supply that outputs to a standard DC connector (like you have on almost every device that uses DC).
The pin diameter is 5mm, with the hole 2.1mm for a pin of that size. It’s then also 1cm long. I can’t seem to find 5mm sockets for this, but have found plenty of 2.1mm sockets. Without detailed info on any of these items, I’m not sure whether the 2.1 is referring to the pin diameter or the overall diameter.
So my question is: Does the socket ‘size’ normally refer to the pin diameter? If not, could someone throw an eBay UK auction link my way that might suit instead?
Thanks in advance, guys

This may help you identify the connectors..

I’m sure Radioshack may have some. Take that with you or take a screenshot and send it to one of their webmasters.

standard DC connector
don’t think there is a standard DC connector
laptops must have at least 10-15 diff sizes
all internal power connectors in PC’s are DC
cell (mobile) phones must have 100’s of types (seems that way at least)
these what your referring to, a DC power jack

Yeah, sorry I meant a DC jack. I mean, I can find them in the UK, it’s just the issue over size that’s confusing me.

on female jack as above the size in mm refers to the socket hole diam and that can have pins of different diam

When in doubt just go to your nearest store of the kind and try the different ones out or show them to one of the store keepers. Even if they don’t have the actual part they might be able to point you in the right direction.
