A better program than FRAPS?

January 22nd, 2020

I want to record something and I need to keep it in a high FPS, and even though I tried to manage through the task manager that Far Cry 2 would use 2 cores and fraps would use another out of my 4 cores, it usually gets below the FPS-cap when some pretty lite physics occur (it doesn’t happen without FRAPS), and even worse, it many times suddenly gets unstable even if nothing special is happening in the game and it can last for several seconds, and all of this results in an unstable playback because it tries to fill the missing FPS by duplicating frames.
Is there a better and more efficient program, maybe?
Thanks in advance.

FRAPS (and other video recording programs) will definitely kill your FPS.
Here’s a link to multiple capturing programs:

I’ve tried all these and none of them proved significantly better than FRAPS. ZDsoft was the only one that may have helped even a little bit.
I had a lot of luck using XFIRE’s recording capability, so you could give that a go. But if you are planning to play it online I would nix that idea, as XFIRE slows everything down online.

No, I’m doing something in the Map Editor.
And it’s more than “killing the FPS”, it many times just suddenly slows down and make the video bumpy.
And, what part of the computer does the capturer use? Because I have a quad core, and as Far Cry 2 supposed to use 2 cores (by the way, I checked the difference when using 1 core VS 2 by the task manager’s “Affinity” option, and it was huge), and FRAPS should just basically do a light compression to the video, so it has 2 free cores to use.
Then why the hell is it getting so unstable? Even more when small physics happen, which, as I said, supposed to take place in the CPU, and I have a plenty of these.
And, is there a program which you can see is better or that you think they’re the same?

I know you dont want to but try lower your resolution
what FPS you trying to archive ?
Answer #4
I also tried that, but the difference wasn’t too big, it’s more because of the physics calculations (and I have a 1280×1024 screen [3.75×3] so it has some strange resolution configurations. I also tried to put it on lowest 800×600, but then I need to use “full resolution capture” anyway rather than half-resolution or it would be too small).
And at first I wanted 100, which I can get without fraps, even though if I still want to have enough special effects it would get a bit lower on the explosions physics, but with fraps it doesn’t even stable enough on 70 (even on 800×600), and I don’t want it lower than this.
Even if it would still be on 70 in the explosion, it gets, as I said, very unstable suddenly with no reason on drops to 60 for a few moments, and it results in bad playback.

I haven’t tried it myself, but some people I know use HyperCam to record in games.
If that isn’t to your liking, perhaps GameCam or Camtasia?
Answer #6
Sorry, but can you actually see the difference between 60 and 100 fps?

First of all, if you have a fast enough monitor and the game doesn’t simulate motion-blur, it would probably fill more smooth and realistic to your eye as it would generate more motion.
But anyway, if was needed this because I needed a fast FPS for some editing I did.
I’ve somehow managed to compromise over 75FPS at the end.
Here’s the video I did if you want to see:

ya i can….

Try GameCam, it’s designed for recording in-game.
