If you can use like old dvd drive and psu then its better.
Or do you plan on building all from scratch for that budget?

This is a build I just built for a friend on the same budget as you; however, its from NewEgg, and they are US only. Maybe it will give you an idea.

Only missing a $20 optical drive.

Maybe you should pick a case first then tell us. Thats one part you really need to like as that is what you will see.

Case is probably the most irrelevant piece to building a computer. Provides no performance at all. Only utility, front I/O, and cooling for OC.
You start with a motherboard, which decides how much technology you want, and what processor and ram you will be using.

But the op may like nice design cases, we do not know. Its best for them to pick out one they like do you not think?
Of course it has no real factors other than eye candy, but some people like nice case, over a massive eye sore.
Its best first of all for the op to pick one and then start the parts.
You may not care for looks of a case, but the op may, as alot do. just look how many apple customers are just there for the style.

I would change this slightly to be a i3 build.
Much better platform to be on.

Future upgrades wise you may have a point,But at the moment,Value wise,The X4 840 is a better choice
than the similarly priced I3 540,The 540 is a dual core while the 840 is a quad core,The 540 has hyper-threading
but that’s far from the same,There are also games that can benefit from the extra cores as you can see here:
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Phenom_II_X4_840/9.html
I’d say they’re on par,Except for games that can utilize more than 2 cores,Than the 840 has a slight edge.

If you have a fairly big USB stick, you can avoid buying a DVD burner.
My burner is just sitting there eating dust.

Yeah its kind of like “choose your Alienware case”.
It looks good and the price tag is hard to swallow.
Probably just a cheap Raidmax Ninja and everything just falls apart.
Buying a computer:
1. The use for it.
2. The budget.
3. Sourcing parts.

so should i get intel, or amd?
Answer #16
Coolcul5 replied: so should i get intel, or amd?
AMD FX (Bulldozer) processors are to be released on October 12th and are even cheaper than we thought! Eight-core FX-8150 and FX-8120 will carry pricing of just $245 and $205, respectively. As for the six cored FX-6120, that is expected to come in at $175

Consider waiting a few weeks if you can.

Those new chips are out of the price range.

But there is an elevated probability that the launch will bring down price cut around the board. THIS, currently is the generally accepted conjecture and it may (or may NOT) be correct. But if he can wait a few weeks then he ‘might’ benefit.

@ Coolcul5 – you asked in £ so I take it you will be sourcing parts here in the UK, you might want to keep an eye on dabs.com they often have good deals going, and are fast delivery and reliable. They also have a store on E-bay, less limited stock, but cheaper.

No probs
They are not necessarily cheap on everything, but occasionally do great deals. They are reliable though and have a fast turnaround if you ever need to RMA.
A friend of mine got a set of Logitech z5500 speakers on the e-bay outlet which were £50 less than the main store price, and much cheaper than anywhere else in Europe at the time.
