Have windows 7 installed on 120gb sata hd. Have IDE DVD-rw installed. 2.0 ghz AMD processor. 1 gb kingston hyper-x RAM. Clean install, used driver genius to update drivers and ran all windows updates. installed available BIOS updates etc. from HP.com.AND REMOVED ALL OPTIONAL usb AND OTHER ACCESORIES. Ran mem-test, OK. Ran Prime 95, OK. Cleaned and defraged. Computer runs beautifully except when a dvd or cd is inserted. my computer loads instantly without dvd in drive but when dvd is inserted green loading bar at top starts loading very slowly and never finishes. I can boot from the dvd and I reloaded windows from this dvd-rw and ran memtest from this dvdrw with no problem but it will not load in windows. I have tried this dvd-rw in another pc and it works fine. And i have tried another sata dvd-rw in this pc and it has same problem . SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP. I am out of ideas THANKS sincerely cquinn03

Sorry, but the best thing is to find the hardware on the motherboard and get the drivers from the mfg. But the driver for this is part of windows, you don’t need a driver for a DVD rom, windows will load its driver.
Open devise MGR, go to the DVD, do you see Microsoft (driver date) 6/21/2006
Did you read the BIOS update, most updates are for newer cpu/memory/ or a problem, you really only update the bios for a reason, its not like software that needs updates.
