Choppy FPS Occasionally

October 15th, 2013

On newer games (And even some older) I’ve been noticing I will get “choppy fps” at points in some games, just randomly I will have a few 0.1sec screen hangs, this doesn’t change whether I’m on normal graphics or ultra-high @ 1980×1080;native (Both run fine bar the cut of fps at random intervals) and on MSI afterburner, the GPU will hardly ever go past 65% load.
So my question is.. Is there something that could be bottlenecking my system? This has become quite frustrating as I quite enjoy my gaming smooth.. I’m pretty sure all of my drivers are up to date except my actual mobo bios. Possibly upgrade to an SSD?
GeForce GTX570 (285.62driver) (820/1640/2050Mhz)
8Gb G.Skill DDR3 @ 1698Mhz
Asus Sabertooth P67 Mobo
Intel i5-2500k @ 4Ghz
2TB Seagate HDD
Asus Xonar Deluxe HD1.3 (sound)
850W Power Supply
Coolermaster Case (Thermaltake Heatsink and inside fansx4)
Whole system stays under 60c all day everyday. My system is very clean (Windows 7 64bit SP1) and runs at about 15% ram and 0.5% CPU when not under load.
Thanks

what exact model is your HDD ?
Answer #2
2TB 7.2K 3.5 WESTERN DIGITAL HDD
Answer #3
My guess is you have something running in the background that is causing the lag spikes. Monitor your system resources and see what exactly is going on when the lag spikes occur.
Answer #4
If it’s a game like BF3 a GTX 570 1.2GB can get spikes when running out of frame buffer.
