Can’t plug anything in to my computer
August 6th, 2016
You have to be a bit more clearer than that…
What you can’t plug in… the cable or what?
more info needed
does the computer turn on?
does it beep when you press the power button?
is there a light on the motherboard when you turn it on?
does the monitor say “no signal”?
You might have bricked you PC but i need to know more information to determine what the problem is
I opened up the computer and I took the fan off, cleaned off the dust and put it back on. The computer turns on normally same sound, and the light is on but there is nothing on the monitor that usually is there when you turn on your computer, except monitor self test or something and that pops up allot when I turn my computer off. The thing that takes in the signals from mouse and keyboard has a USB cord and it doesn’t work. I plugged it into every port and it still doesn’t. Also I tried plugging in a different monitor and it still doesn’t work. Also before my monitor was acting up and I had to plug it in and out a couple time and ones I think I used to much pressure when I pushed the cord in but I don’t know why the USB ports wont work. what do you mean I might have bricked my computer, not sure what bricked means
i mean you might have made it as useful as a brick.. fried the motherboard.. did you de-static yourself before you cleaned the fan?
“The thing that takes in the signals from mouse and keyboard has a USB cord and it doesn’t work.”
What do you mean?
The ports on the back of the computer? what USB cord?
OK here is a picture of it, http://s3.amazonaws.com/wootsaleimages/Microsoft_USB_Wireless_Mouse_and_KeyboardxgaDetail.jpg
that black thing, you plug it into your computer and the cord on it is one that you would put into a USB port.
I didn’t de-static myself, but I think its because when I was plugging in the moniter I pushed too hard and something broke inside. Doesnt make sense that until I opened it, it stopped working
ok
Does your graphics card have an individual fan?
If so is it on?
Plug a USB stick into one of your USB ports
Does the light on the USB stick shine when you have plugged it in?
If it does shine then plug the reciever of the keyboard and mouse (the black thing) into the same port.
If the keyboard and mouse still don’t work then replace the batteries in both of them and press the connect button on the mouse, the keyboard and reciever (if one sequence of pressing the connect button doesn’t work, try another one) e.g.
mouse connect, keyboard connect and then push the reciever connect button, OR
keyboard connect, mouse connect and then push the reciever connect button, OR
reciever connect button, then the keyboard connect button and then the mouse connect button.
When you pushed too hard, did you hear something crack or break?
I tried with a jump drive and surprisingly the light went on. I tried it the mouse thing and that worked too. I tried the the monitor and it worked, So everything is pretty good now. I have no idea why or how. thanks for helping out I wouldn’t be sitting here(at my own computer) now if it wasn’t for you.
