Password required after closing laptop

August 5th, 2016

Hi,
I have a laptop and I was thinking about something… Do you guys know a way that I have to type in my password everytime I close my laptop display?
It really is annoying that other people are using it and this way I can make sure nobody gets on my computer just by closing the lid.
Hope u can help me

Answer #1
What operating system are you running?
In a windows environment go to >> Control Panel >> Power Options (System/Security) >> In W7 on the left side it has an option for “Require a password on wakeup” and if you mess around the settings in any version of windows you can set it to prompt a password on wake up as well. For the power options set it to sleep when the lid is closed…

Im using Win 7 and yeah this works half for my needs! I don’t my laptop to go to sleep when closing the lid. I just want it to turn off the monitor and require a password to authenticate. You get what I mean?
Answer #3
I could also use the screensaver and enable “On resume, display logon screen”. But this isnt an ideal solution
Answer #4
i don’t think Microsoft incorporated solution for your problem, but you can easily lock your computer by pressing WIN+L keys
Answer #5
Thanks, that helps a lot! I might also be able to write a script, that automatically locks my computer with the Win+L combo everytime my display turns off
Answer #6
Well… when you bring it out of sleep it will have a password prompt… shouldn’t take long to wake up.
Yeah I used to use a shortcut method and just double clicked an icon that locked my PC / set it to auto-run after 3 mins of inactivity.
I think the sleep mode is best though saves power too while you are away. ECO saving!
