Use HirensBootCD (Partition Magic) to format your HD via DOS. Then install the OS.

Don’t appologise mate we have all been there!
Download and burn HirensBootCD onto a CD. Check your BIOS settings (press DEL/DELETE key on start up) and make sure your CD/DVD drive is the first boot. Then put HirensBootCD into the drive and restart your PC. A little menu will appear which says something like ‘Boot from CD’ or Boot from OS’. You want the ‘Boot from CD’ option so that HirensBootCD starts up.

HirensBootCD is not an installation CD and has nothing to do with an OS installation like your XP CD has …….. try it and see.

ok thank you, i will try it tomorrow
Answer #9
ok HAL.dll is not just a problem with the dll file if it is at all. I had this problem a few days ago all it is is that the MBR is in someway damaged or does not correspond to a correct location. All you have to do is boot the windows cd enter recovery console and use commands fixmbr after that is finished run bootcfg /rebuild and follow the prompts for information! this should make windows bootable
