Monitor goes black suddenly

My Monitor goes black suddenly while I am working or playing games on PC.
2weeks ago I upgraded my PC to 1GB RAM,8600GT 512mb ddr2
My confi is: P4 3.0GHz,Dual Core,XP SP2
Can u tell me whats the problem that causing 2sec black screen?
Note: my XP aint legit.Could that be the reason.Coz few days ago I heard that Microsoft is doing something like that (making someones pc go black for few seconds if their OS aint legit) or my Monitor life is going to end?

well if the vid card overheats, it shutsdown to prevent melting and permanant scarring. Could be it overheating, can you say the temps of the card?

I think your video card is faulty. Try returning it to the place you bought it or get it replaced with your manufacturers warranty.
Your OS has nothing to do with this problem. May I ask how many Watts your Power Suplly unit is because it might also be a power issue. It may also be a heat issue as mentioned previously.

my PSU is of 400 watts

try the power saving,and check if the monitor is schudled to go off if the pc is not active for a while,this work

check the temps with everest, as you play. But with that setup, 400w should be sufficient

search “everest ultimate” in appz section
you check your monitor cable, got an other one to try, is it tight, remove and re-seat it on both ends if you can
