File sharing via lan

Hey everybody!
I’m currently using HFS when I transfer files from one PC to another PC
Btw this is Lan.
Anyway when I use HFS the max speed is only 1000kb/s, is there any programs that can transfer faster??
If you didn’t understand the text above then this might help.
Laptop: has a image file on 6GB, which I downloaded via RS with a speed of 4000kb/s. Now I want to transfer this file to my PC, so I insert the file into HFS. PC: PC downloads the file with a speed of 1000kb/s (and my PC also downloads at a speed of 4000kb/s when downloading from RS)
So how can I transfer faster ?

What operating system are you using on the two computers?
Are the computers wired or wireless?
What are they connected to? Switch, hub, router, server?

Vista both.
I have tried wired and wireless.
and I’m using wireless router.
