laptop slow to a crawl

have duo core 1.73, 2 gb of ram, tinyxp, and a 120gb 7200rpm hd. i run tuneup utilites, virus and spyware scan, and diskeeper. But my laptop sometimes comes to a crawl, where nothing seems to be responsive. doesn’t make sense. any advice?

any extra programs that might be running that you’re unaware of. to check what mem and cpu usage a process is using open up task manager and go to processes and it will tell u how much memory and what percent of the cpu theyre using. You can also see the CPU and RAM usages in percent in task manager, if neither of them are high it might be due to a virus on the computer, what anti virus are you using?

try to check cpu temp…allot off laptops have cooling problems..buy a special stand for it so your laptop stand free from bottom ,get cool air.
also to check yuor cpu temp..use this tool its free and safe.

click on “processes” and tell us how many processes are running

47 processes. when there’s no program open, and i try to open something, it becomes unresponsive, and just stay at the loading stage, and never loads. can it be the harddrive? i did a scandisk, and defrag, but it didn’t seem to help.
