XP to Vista LAN

How are you connecting? just from cable to cable? You might need a cross-over cable to do this then when you have you must set the IP manually in both network properties make vista 10.0.0.1, and xp 10.0.0.2 and let it automatically choose the subnet then they should be talking with each other and you can play a game by choosing that IP in the game. good luck!

it ain’t that simple
xp to xp and vista to vista is easy
xp and vista for me was hard for some reason.
I only got it to work so that vista could see xp but not the other way around
all firewalls were off, crossover cable all settings were right and it failed.
I have no idea where I went wrong, googled the hell out of it.
now I only use xp and ubuntu on my pcs so, sorry mate can’t help you.

It worked no problem with me it was really that simple, I didn’t use google, i figured it all out myself if you want instant chat help i will add you to MSN

So i cant just use a normal LAN cable?

I don’t really know the rule on that , I could actually, and I think you could probably get away with it if your PC is newer, or maybe the cable I used was actually cross-over! I’m 99% sure that recent hardware is clever enough to spot it though and it can do the crossover itself just try what i said as if you had a crossover man, and I think it will work

i use an ethernet mini-switch seems to do the job with age of empires/css etc. program called Hamachi is really good for establishing connections etc.
we have all different OS’s but it doesnt seem to matter

it will 100% not work.
for PC to PC connection you MUST have a crossover cable.

I Use WAN Nowadays so excuse me it has been awhile since using a Straight Crossover Did or have you Pinged IPz ?
Also check your Network and Sharing Center and tick the Appropriate boxes (Network Discovery and so ON)
Are both Pcs in the Same Workgroup?
I could go into much more detail but Lets just try the simple methods 1st k

Start>Run>ping IP Address If you have your IP set to Obtain Automatically Then go to Start>Run>Type cmd then press enter>then type ipconfig and enter again Your IP for Vista will be next to IPv4….Ping that IP though XP and then Ping XPs Through Vista see if u get ConnectionAlso check your Network and Sharing Center and tick the Appropriate boxes (Network Discovery and so ON)
