Could only be one of two things as I see it.
1) Your cd/dvd drive is not set as the first boot device.
2) Your cd/dvd is not bootable.
Answer #2
1. First boot device set as a CD/DVD 2. Second same dvd boot in other laptops and desktops , Confirmed it few times any other thoughts ..Thanks for reply
Answer #3
Just because the CD/DVD boots from another computer it doesn’t mean it will work on another…
Try burning the CD/DVD on the same computer you are trying to boot from…
Answer #4
CD/DVD writing speed also matters so the better option is to do as told
Burn the CD/DVD In the same computer from which you want to boot hope it sorts out your problem
cheers

Another question: Is it a CD or DVD and how old is the laptop. Older ones couldn’t boot from the optical drive, then cd’s were added, and finally dvds. Make sure you also are only using a single sided disc.
Why do you need to boot from the cd/dvd anyhow? From your comment, it seems that it is booting into windows. If you need to reinstall Win, boot into the OS and run the setup. Lots of help via google on this front.

what kind of laptop? what os did it come with and what are you trying to put on it? I ask bc I have an older dell inspiron 1720, it came with vista (i think, may have been windows 7) i could downgrade to xp fine, but when i tried reinstalling the OS Vista/7 i couldnt there was a setting in the bios i had to change just so it would install. Not sure off the top of my head, but i can boot into bios if it may help you and tell you what the setting was
Answer #7
In light of all this, I would recommend trying an external optical drive, and verify your media.
Answer #8
@smash, do u mean booting form external dvd drive? If so, bios must support booting from external drive
Answer #9
You could try a pendrive if the BIOS of the laptop is compatible.
