Perfectdisk start error

August 14th, 2013

i have been running perfectdisk for years already on my computers, today, when i started perfectdisk 12 on vista x64, it gave me this error:
windows cannot find C:program files…perfectdisk.exe make sure you
typed the name correctly and try again
i don’t know what happened, i checked in services, and it is in “start” mode
i tried uninstalling, reinstalling, same error
can anyone help me?

Answer #1
run chkdsk /f
let it reboot to do the check.
go into that folder to actually SEE if the program exe is there.
– it may be corrupted, virus checker killed, registry entry missing, all sorts of reasons.
Uninstall and reinstall usually fixes the problems – it’s weird that it happened like that..

hi brother
i have gone into the program folder, and tried running it there, even tried running the program as admin, still no go
it’s the same error: windows cannot find ….. perfectdisk.exe
this is not a new software for my computer, and i have run it in the past, can’t be the antivirus, i have used kaspersky ever since, for all my computers,
i can’t understand how this glitch came about
tried shutdown, restart, checked under services, even reinstalled, still no go

Check these keys: (they are the path keys for PD)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\PerfectDisk.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\PerfectDisk.exe
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Components\660D1E75E77246A4597175A91608A793
The only other thing I can suggest is to do an uninstall and after that (after a reboot), do a reg search for perfect disk (try variations of the words) and delete all references to PD from the registry.
Search for the exe file and the folder name – be careful with what you delete, make sure it’s PD stuff, but delete ALL refs to PD.
Reboot and reinstall.. see if that works.
(I ALWAYS use Total Uninstall to monitor any installation – it watches everything that’s installed and lets you totally remove something. MS uninstall is shiit – it’s leaves all sorts of crap behind)

hi brother,
i figured it out, finally, i seem to have installed a new version of tuneup
utilities some time ago, and when i configured the software, one of the
programs i disabled was perfectdisk
i can’t understand why when i was enabling the software thru tuneup, PD still wouldn’t start, still got the same error, even after restarting the computer
my solution was to uninstall tuneup and PD, restart and reinstall- voila
Answer #5
Hahaha – brilliant!
I don’t use things like tune-up, i find they cause more problems than they fix (kinda like those so-called memory defrag utils.. which are even more pointless than the tune-up ones..)
