BOOTMGR Failed notice, when trying to install OS on Netbook
August 7th, 2016
Im trying to reinstall windows xp on my acer aspire one netbook, as iv done a few times before but this time it wont work, everytime i try to install the os the installation itself wont make any progress, iv left it install overnight but it just stays on the same percent of completion. Having messed around with a few different methods im now getting a BOOTMGR error when i try to boot os from usb, I have followed all the right steps i.e formatting usb and partitioning drives etc.
What could be wrong, and does someone maybe have a good link for a easy OS to use on a netbook?!

If you’ve tried similar steps, give this a go. I’ve had issues creating bootable USBs from bootable CD images as the boot image is never copied across.
There are clearly two possibilities here:
1. You didn’t correctly adjust the boot order in BIOS (The flash drive by model, Or USB-HDD has to be set as the first device!)
2. Your flash drive is not bootable – Means that whatever method you used to put XP on it was improper.
You might wanna Google it for some guides.
My advice, When it comes to installing XP on netbooks, You’d be best using an external burner rather than a flash drive. XP is simply not a flash drive friendly OS! While there are a number of different ways to install it from one, None of em is guaranteed to work! (Wherever you’ll look, You’ll always find people who say it didn’t work for them, It didn’t work for me either on a few occasions!) You pretty much have a 50/50 chance of getting it to install properly that way.
So if you wanna be on a safe side, I suggest you buy an external burner (They’re fairly cheap and easy to find!)
thanks for your help guys!
maybe itd just be easier to install a light os, something other than xp i mean, like windows starter or something maybe? what would u recommend?
You could try Linuxmint XFCE/Xubuntu/Lubuntu.
All are light weight Linux distro’s. You could use the following tool to put it on your flash drive:

Also, All of em can run Live too (Without installation) so you could easily determine which one you like best
before choosing which one you wanna install!
thanks man, ill look into that, but im thinking along the lines of windows as its a friends netbook, they are just used to using windows os’s
Then I’d say XP would be your best bet. But as I said before, If you wanna have a 100% success rate with the installation, Better get yourself an external burner!
