best system for 1.85 GB RAM

i have two laptops, one runs on wireless network and one with a cable. i have had an accident with one so i need to reverse it.
The problem i have is that the laptop which now uses the cable has only 1.85 GB of ram and has microxp with only three services running (dhcp client, plug and play and something else)and internet works just fin,e if im gonna switch it, it’ll take a lot more services to run wireless.
The only thing i do on that laptop is INTERNET, and notepad nothing else (i dont even have sound enabled). its a x32 machine, a toshiba tecra,
what operating system with wireless networking (that runs fastest) do you recommend
what i want is as little services as possible but so that it enables wireless networking??
So i want event-log and user specified framework and all that ~love~ disabled. I want anything disabled but the plugplay (usb) and the wireless.. whats the best system and does anyone know the services that wireless need?
Are you up for something which is not windows?
I assume u’r looking for long battery lasting? is this why you disable services?
Put Ubuntu or Mint. I had them on my old laptop and I personally see its more snappy. But from reading.. Man I suggest spend a few hundred buck and buy a new laptop………..
internet with any version of windows is asking for trouble without an antivirus.. a variation of Linux will be quicker and safer.. or just spend a few bucks on a decent laptop!!.
