How to fix Wrong Display adapter ?

ok so I have a Radeon HD 6850, i’ve ben using it for 2 years without any problem
today my pc crashed, when it opened the resolution wasn’t right, trying to figure out why that was i noticed my display drivers was identified as Radeon HD 4800 Series
I removed the device and re installed drivers but result is the same it always appears as 4800 series.
My motherboard is FOXCONN A78AX-K, which doesn’t have a onboard gpu and when i check the 4800 Series adapters location it appears as PCI bus 1 so i don’t think my 6850 fried and bios kickstarted the onbard gpu
How can i solve this ? Is there a way to manually set the display adapter ?

You don’t need to change the display adapter, you need to change the driver. Open device manager, open properties for the device, select the driver tab, update driver. You want to choose driver manually and pick from a list of device drivers. That should allow you to force install the correct drivers.

Ok so i clicked update driver under the driver tab
clicked browse my computer for driver software
clicked let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer
then i get “There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.”

uninstall the driver and go here to get and install the latest one

just to double check go to device mgr and open the display adapter and under “details” / “hardware ID” get the VEN_ & DEV_ numbers

I have tried uninstalling & reinstalling from there too, it still shows up as a 4800 series

looks like you have a 4800
(from the INF file for the ATI drivers)
“ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series ” = ati2mtag_R7X, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_9442

how do you know it’s a 6850, it say it on the card ?
your hardware ID says different, and that’s from the hardware, not the drivers
that hardware ID matches to the ID in the drivers to install the proper config
to check independent of the OS
either check the video BIOS boot screen
or get GPU-Z and Hiren’s BootCD
boot to MiniXP on Hiren’s and run GPU-Z

yeah, turns out i’m an idiot. it is in fact a 4850. I pulled the card out just to make sure it’s a 6850 nope says 4850. Then i got pissed off and thought they sold me a 4850 inside a 6850 box, found the box that says 4850 as well -_-‘ I have no idea why or how i made myself believe i had a 6850, i bought and installed the damn thing myself.

well we all been there !
