Looking for cheap music cds (preferrably compilations)

August 9th, 2016

Work has been getting progressively more pants on head lately. We went from MP3 players to cd-players (think ye olde SONY discman\walkman) because the security and IT people are convinced that the mp3 players could be used to slurp up data, even if people were watching. Then we were able to wrangle the concession of cdplayers, but I guess they didn’t really think enough people would use them because suddenly now we’re all not going to be allowed any cds except store bought ones which presumably wouldn’t be at risk for having software on them…
My problem is almost everything I like comes from soundcloud or podcasts so I really don’t have a lot of cds that I didn’t burn myself from mp3s. I’ve been looking through Amazon for compilations and box sets but I was wondering if anyone knew a better way to buy cds of music, preferably by way of collected works or box sets, preferably cheap\used?
Thanks in advance.

Use Lightscribe discs. The images are easy to find with google and they will look like prerecorded discs.

That’s a bummer, OP. I suppose your best bet is ebay. In the UK we have pawn shops that buy/sell CDs, not sure if you have them there, where you can buy albums for £1 upwards.

Have a look on ebay under: …… Wholesale & Job Lots/Music/CDs ….. Some nice bargains there.

You can get stick on labels with a printing app to print proper CD labels.
But maybe all too risky…. Vinyl disks are the go !
Or there’s cassette tapes…Although I can remember them being used with the Commodore 64 for data..
However 8 track cartridges should be safe
Seems like your company should be thinking of something more productive than their employees being a bunch of thieves !

I’ve considered the idea of using labels, lightscribe images (as have my co-workers) but I don’t think it’s worth the risk. I’ll have to pony up and buy some discs.

Preaching to the choir here, unfortunately the management here has decided that it’s important to look like they’re doing something about security–as opposed to actually have secure systems–so we get a lot of stupid stuff like this. Personally I’d rather just go back to my mp3 player, which I bought according to corporate specification and have them fire anyone who is seen plugging their player into anything “for battery life” reasons.

eBay is an option I honestly forgot about! I don’t know why but I keep forgetting it exists… Will definitely look into eBay to se if I can get what I want in bulk there.
Pawn shops, not so much any more. The local place used to have the best selection around but these days they no longer even buy them because they’re so hard to move and the selection has dwindled to almost nothing. Will still go through and hunt for gold but it’s unlikely I’ll find anything in the smaller and smaller pile they have left.
Plan on go to a local flea market, there’s an old timer there who has a collection double the size of the old pawn shop collection and I know I can find stuff I like there, but that doesn’t open until later in the year.

As I said above, I keep forgetting all about eBay but I’ll definitely give that a look. Thanks especially for giving me a specific methodology to try and find a bundle.
Thanks again for all the suggestions!
