Whoever uses Windows Media Center to record TV shows (Help)

August 2nd, 2013

Hi, if you use Windows Media Center to record TV shows it results in a .wtv file correct? Well my question is…
What program do you use to convert that .wtv file to a nice quality .avi file or .mkv file?
Thanks for any suggestions and insight!

Giving WMC the flick for recording TV would be a good idea, so to speak!.
Here is how to convert to another type of Windows format..

Which may be just as useless..
Google “Convert wtv ” for more stuff..

Thanks you guys! Is Media Center really that bad? I’ve heard it’s better than the software the tuner cards come with. But then again I’ve heard you guys say it sucks. I’ll keep looking into it!

Media Center is just fine and does a great job with many tuner cards that would otherwise not have the functionality that Media Center provides.
I use Media Center for live tv and dvr functionality and I also use XBMC for everything else.
I have XBMC selectable on Media Centers menu so it transitions flawlessly.

There are much better apps such as DVB Viewer pro, if your capture card is supported.

WMC is utter crap with M$’s own file types. Get some better TV recording software, there are many different ones available and record in transport stream format because it allows the file to be checked and sync problems can be fixed.
Some TV applications are listed on the following site. The appz are not all TV reception/recording so you will need to check what the app does. I use DVBViewer Pro, I have used DVBDream, TV Scheduler Pro which both have free versions available. I have tried ProgDVB and a few others too but always went back to DVBViewer.
