Making bootable windows 8.1 disk
February 8th, 2020
ImgBurn says this at the bottom of the program.. Device not ready (incompatible medium installed)
Maybe it’s fussy and don’t like some re-writable disks..
Went an bought some new disk, still the same problem.
Will it burn OK on your other laptop or PC maybe..
Maybe burner is dying or just needs a lens clean.
I think it’s better for you to try to boot from a usb pendrive if your laptop’s motherboard supports it, besides you won’t waste the media for just one usage this way.
It boots perfect on other laptop, both disk did. my drive don’t even recognise it on this laptop.
Rung HP an they tried charging me £34 just for support on the drive, then tried selling me £500 pc.
I was thinking this but my usb drives are all taken, HDMI, mouse and keyboard (can’t stand laptop keyboards.
You can buy a cheap USB memory stick nowadays and use that to boot.
Discs are outdated.
You could put your Windows ISO onto a USB stick using Rufus.
Why not Windows 10 ?……I thought 8 was a bit of a lemon.

Yea i’m trying to do this now, just found my 32gb recovery usb that came with the laptop but i deleted the partion and installed windows 7.
Will the usb work same as a disk? i don’t need to keep it plugged it forever? or is it just for the install.
I don’t trust 10 plus it’s new so probably buggy as hell.
Just for install..You can unplug it when Windows reboots during install.
TBH I haven’t got exited about anything since 7 !
Installation went smoother than i thought, just gotta install new ram now and hope i don’t fry it.
I prefer 7 but 8 seems to run smoother on my laptop.
