I have about 8 computers in my house all connected to the same router.
One of my pc has 4 terabyte hard drive which stores movies/game etc.
Now i want to be able to access this from my Laptop and desktop computer but don’t want other people in my house to b able to.
I have tried unticking simple file sharing but when i try and set up who can access it will only let user on my computer not on the network
That’s not a networking problem mate, you could just encrypt the folders and nobody can open them without your password.
I’m sure there are many free programs you could use, here’s one of them :

Or you could just use microsoft tools, here’s the tutorial :

P.S. I’m not much into microsoft stuff anymore, on linux you can simply use the root account to set folder permissions.
Create any USER [Encrypted] in that OS and use that in your Laptop …
If You are using VISTA then its pretty coool ….
share that drive~ Folders are not allowed ~ and allow access to any user ….
I know you can do the same thing using XP …
but VISTA is more secure … ‘
Please do not double post. Use the edit button instead 5 day warning ~ Mistweaver
There are six computers in a office and employees are doing design work, they are using Illustrator and photoshop. The problem is i want to create a workstation or a server where the files will automatically save from those computers when they save those files in their PC’s.
