Black screen on boot up…?

January 7th, 2014

I turned off my toshiba satelite laptop last night, and everithing was working great. This morning I tried to start it up and I got red toshiba logo with green/blue stripes across the screen, and after that xp logo appears also with the stripes. After that the monitor goes black and turns off and I cant do nothing. I tried to start it up from the safe mode and that works fine without the stripes. The thing is I was able to boot it up normaly once and everything was looking great till kaspersky did recognise threat detected and instead of virus info it was shown as those green/blue stripes on the right corner of the kaspersky alert window.
If anyone has any solution for this problem plz help me. I just hope that I dont have to reinstall everithing?

If it came out with a recovery disk you should be able to fix this problem Happened to my friend once on a toshiba sat laptop and the recovery fixed it up never knew what was wrong though, just recover your windows drive and leave everything else there, you will only need to install other programs that didn’t come with the laptop.
Hope i helped.

Thats it you got hit with a big virus that killed your bootup, you can try a repair by changing your bios setting to do this start the laptop and and keep tapping the delete key, change your bios go to boot sequence change for fisrt boot CD/DVD and hard drive second then open the reader drop in your Windows CD and during set up you will be asked if you want to repair or do a clean install, try the repair if it dosnt work you will have to do the clean install,
I just had a repair come in with the same problem as you, I had to do a complete reinstall they lost everything sorry,
BTW if you do a clean install first make sure you hit the reformat the hard drive during setup and on the first reboot during install do as above tap the delete clean and return the bios back to the original settings
Hope this helps

Sounds like a problem with the GFX card,If it’s still under warranty better use it,Otherwise you could try baking
the motherboard for 9 minutes @ 200C or 385F (not kidding),It does work in certain cases,If there’s a loose soldering
point,Do remove the CMOS battery first.

It can’t possibly be an OS problem if it occurs on post!

It could be because the toshiba logo on boot up are programed into the mother board not O/S you can reformat the hard drive 10 times but if you dont go into the bios and turn off the setting to show the Toshiba logo it will allways be there on boot up even if you remove the hard drive and boot up the machine

Thank you all for try to help, I have tried removing the bios battery and still no help and I was consulting with my frined today and he has told me the same thing as Roberto400 did, looks like my GFX card has died

I still maintain,If it’s out of warranty,Baking the motherboard is certainly worth a try!
As crazy as that sounds it has high potential and can re-solder loose points.
Take this as an example:

But if your laptop has a dedicated GFX card then you should only bake that.
As said,Optimal time is 9 mins @ 200C or 385F (pre-heat it first),When done,Let it cool off for at least an hour or two before putting it back.
