Reinstalled OS and now have this buzzing sound from speakers

i just reinstalled windows 7 on a new harddrive for my PC because of the failure of my old one.
i just finished installing all of the windows updates too so my pc is up to date.
problem is, i have this buzzing sound from my speakers (logitech x-240). if the volume of the speakers is put really low, the volume of the buzzing is very high. the volume of the buzzing goes lower as i put the volume of the speakers higher.
i’ve never had this problem before. they used to work fine.
will the fact that i have a lot of plugs in the sockets affect how the speakers sound? because i just put in an extra 2 plugs into extensions that go into sockets. in total i have 9 plugs (including 2 extensions) plugged into 4 sockets. before i used to have 7 (including 1 extension) plugged into the same 4 sockets. will this have an effect?

Well start with just the one set of speakers and nothing else connected and make sure there plugs are in firmly.
Possibly a connection from motherboard to front speaker sockets could have got disturbed..
