Xbox wont read discs

January 24th, 2020

Hey,
My xbox is far out of warranty and its now acting up, i have used brand new and old game discs and the tray doesnt recognize there is a disc, says its dirty (i put in a brand new unopened game), kicks me out while playing, etc. Ive looked it up online and it seems that everyone thinks its the POT, and that i can fix it myself, but before i crack open my xbox does anyone know of anything else it could be?
I know i could just send it in but its not worth it to spend 100 dollars on a 3 year old xbox thats gonna keep breaking, might as well buy one new. Thanks!

If it’s not reading the games, the easiest solution would just be to buy a new disc drive.

Yeah ur disc drive has had it, ive had 2 of these in the past, MS will charge you 70 to fix it, if u know anyone good with xbox’s they will fit a new drive for 30 ish, or if ur a wiz u can buy new drive and fit it ur self uve just got to transfer all the coding and crap. i find a new disc drive is a temp soultion, get a new drive, run it down for a month or 2 and trade ur xbox in for new 1, cause i find in past putting a new drive in just delay’s it mucking up again

Try greasing up the slides the laser sits on. If that don’t work, replace laser unit.

Yeah apparently the lasers that come with the xbox are bottom of the line super cheap ones and thats alot of the issues with older xboxs, but greasing up the sides??
And replacing the disc drive?? Anyone got some more info on that?
