Would Updating my bios fix my ram problem?

January 25th, 2020

I have 2 gigs of ram but my computer only recognizes 1.
It doesnt matter if I only I have 1 of the 2 put in, which slot its in, the gig module installed, the slot its installed in, it always says; “Total Memory: 1024 MB”
slot 0: 1024
Slot 1: Not Installed
and Slot 0: Not Installed
slot 1: 1024
for both sticks
I can’t figure out why isn’t recognizing both ram modules. Would updating my bios possibly fix the problem?
heres my specs:

and the gig modules im using “1GB, 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300”

Answer #1
possibly, with the ram sticks, are they from the same manufacturer and of the same spec?

yeah I bought them both from crucial.com

they look slightly different, but both with the crucial brand label, and both “1GB, 240-pin DIMM, DDR2 PC2-5300”

its possible that the sticks are incompatible with each other. updating the BIOS may fix this, but it can be a bit hit-and-miss
Answer #6
Try just booting into bios without actually changing anything in it then restarting. This will force the system to bypass the quick boot and pick up all the new hardware.
Answer #7
they brand new
I’d return the single sided one or both and get a matched pair
either one works by it’s self and reads 1gb
get CPU-Z and install one then the other in the same slot and sereenshot the “memory” & “spd” tabs and post it or send to who you got the memory from if they are different
Answer #8
some boards do require that all ram modules are single or duble sided and wont work correctly with mixed
