Wireless Network Equipment

February 5th, 2020

Okay so, i decided i’m going to switch to a wireless network in my house because everyone living here is sick of having to be in the same room to use their computers (3 of us – 2 desktops 1 laptop)
I need advice on buying a wireless modem/router but not sure exactly what i need as i already have D-Link DSL- 504G and need one that won’t cut out over long speeds of downloading due to my slow connection speed (2.5 Mbps)
I Also need advice on a PCI or usb wireless receiver for one of the pc’s.
Thanks in advance guys (and girls)

D-Link Xtreme N Dir-655 is a great product and it has its own line of both PCI and Express Card Slot Adapters

Okay check if your Laptop has WiFi which is the Wireless interenet. If it doesn’t you will have to buy a separate modem for it. Also the 2nd Desktop also needs to have WiFi in order to receive wireless internet. If you want high speeds and have them long distance apart go for the “N” and if its close by and just usual internet go for “G”. So all you need is a Modem, a router and make sure 2 of the 3 comptuers have WiFi built in or you will have to get a seprate thing to have wireless interenet on them. I would recommend a Modem/Router 2 in 1. You can look in for D-Link as they are one of the best company for internet.

Yea im 100% sure the laptop has built in wifi. And the second computer doesnt need to receive wireless as i can just plug it in via a cat5 cable? Also, the maximum range for one of the computers to be away would be about 15 metres, so i don’t think range is much of a problem.
Maybe you could suggest possible items from http://www.playtech.co.nz/category.php?action=show&id=126 as i buy quite a lot of stuff from that site and trust them.

Don’t get N, N is still in draft stage. It will only be finalized in 2009, and there is absolutely no need to go for N unless you are in a huge space and need good signal everywhere. A lot of people will tell you to get N, that’s all crap, those are the people who are racing to get the technology first without thinking twice. G still outperforms N, reason to that is that N is still pretty much unstable and weak. I bought N once, returned everything back in 3 days and got myself a regular G. Sure, N routers have awesome designs but save yourself a headache, get G, at least until N will be finalized. N is not worth the money while it’s in draft stage, and your internet and download speed won’t be any faster over G, only your local final transfer will be faster and better signal/

Okay, i wont buy a wireless N. Since i have slower speeds (download at like 225 kb/s) do you think this one would be okay?

The reason i suggested this one is because its cheap. Do you think it would have the problem of restarting frequently like i have read on reviews?
EDIT: i purchased one exactly the same as my isp sell which is good according to some people i know using it for the same uses as me.
Also can someone help me with one little problem? It seems that i only get local connectivity on my vista laptop?
Also… i still need a wireless adapter for my PC. Any suggestions?
