What do I do with my jailbroken ipod touch?

I am in the process of jailbreaking my 2.1. ipod. Im confused at exactly what I can do with this. Can I only download apps and stuff through sites like bb? or can I download free apps through itunes? I dont want to get screwed here…
Also, what else can I do with a jailbreaked ipod?

Jailbreaking allows iPhone and iPod Touch users to run unofficial code on their devices bypassing Apple’s official distribution mechanism, the App Store. Once jailbroken, iPhone users are able to download many applications previously unavailable through the App Store via unofficial installers such as Cydia, Icy and Kryptes.
