Don’t buy a new desktop from ebay, that’s for suckers.
Build your own PC, it’s not exactly hard to plug one thing into another it works out cheaper plus you can get faster/better quality parts.
Also AMD’s cpu’s are sadldy lagging way behind intels stuff so look at a system built around a newer intel cpu.;

Hmmmwent just over budget on my first shot, mainly because hard drives are so bloody expensive right now.
Have you got a hard drive you could use until next year when the hard drive crisis is over? if so then it’s real easy to do loads better.

If you are happy to use that until 1TB hard drives are closer to £40 than £110 again (i think the start of next summer shoudl see prices start getting back to normal)
Then that makes the job pretty easy with a budget of £275?

yeah that would be fine!

Will you be doing HD video encoding or the like?
i just assumed you would
Anyway i looked at two possibilitys, both better than the rigs you were looking at but don’t come with HDD.
This… threw in a gpu for some games etc or any other task that takes advantage of it.

Or with no gpu but a faster CPU for even better video encoding.

wow this is insanely cheap for a sandy bridge pc! i could easily get vat back as my dad has a business and then i could possibly upgrade it? and no i wouldnt be just viewing and would the integrated graphics be able to handle 1080p on a 32? thanks a lot could you send me the link please )
Answer #11
Yes the integrated graphics will be fine for 1080p playback but will be absolutely rubbish for any games.
And yes the upgrade paths are good with the superb i5 2500k and the i7 2700k cpu’s and more to come. Overclocking is a bit limited on those boards though.
PRO TIP: make 20 decent posts (no spam) on www.bit-tech.net forum and get free next day delivery from scan..knock that price down more.

Thanks i will when i place my order and is it worth upgrading to the i5 for an extra 30 pounds?
EDIT: sorry to bombard you with more questions :p but will this be very silent because my main use would be for a htpc! And is it worth buying high speed ram like the one above or could i save a bit of money by skimping on that a little bit!

What chip are you looking at exactly. please link.
EDIT: I’m using www.scan.co.uk for the parts incase you didn’t know.

Wanted to ask you a question would i be better off with an amd system

Nope. The intel platform is a much better platform to be on right now.
Especially for video encoding and such. the i3 will run circles round phenom ii quads.
Answer #22
If you could spend extra tiny amount of cash on a Z68 board you’ll benefit a lot if getting an unlocked CPU in the future. Even the cheapest Z68 boards can achieve overclocks near 4.8GHz.

Ok thanks is it possible to overcloc the i3 to that cos that would be insane! And what are the differences between all these z68 and h61 motherboards? And which one is the best?
Answer #24
The i3 has a locked multi so you are not going to be overclocking it.
He means if you buy a upgraded chip in the future like the i5 2500k then you will be able to overclock that much better with a z68 motherboard.
The ones you are looking at will only offer limited overclocking potential.
