Will this cpu work with my desktop?

August 6th, 2016

Same socket type lga 775. Now is possible to upgrade to a Core2Quad from a pentum e5400? According to cpuz my otherboard is an lga 775 socket. Now here is the link. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001GMGN1G/?tag=pcpapi-20# Will I get the intel core 2 duo box or will it be in different packages since it said new? Here is the list

I am going to buy from Digicconcepts. It has a lifetime warranty that is why I am interested in that seller.
I have a dell inspiron 545MT with a 600 corsair power supply so I could possible upgrade but just making sure it really works before buying it as I don’t want to waste money shipping it back.
Please tell me if its going to work because I asked on toms hardware and they said even though its the same socket type there a chance it won’t work with the same socket type so is that true? Also if I can upgrade will the oem pentium e5400 be good enough to cool it until I can get a Corsair Hydro Series H70.

What model is your motherboard. Without that we dont know.
Your motherboard has socket 775 but that does not mean it support an core2quad.
To the 2nd question. Give the seller an pm. No one know only seller know.

DEll 545 MT with an dell 0N826N motherboard. I am unsure if this is the right link but here is where it says its compatible with http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/dell-0n826n-specs/
Also I don’t know how to pm a seller.
Answer #3
That motherboard should be fine for any Core 2 quad or duo including what you re looking at
In the customer reviews, one of then said it come with a stock cooler..
If you are richer, you could go better (say Q6600),but not much point in spending too much on older technology,
anyhow the one you selected should run well and give a nice improvement on the Pentium!
Look around Ebay too…Here’s something looks good..

I don’t buy used components that is just risking it breaking early. I never buy anything used, also I have already ordered the cpu right now.

WOW! I am impressed by the Quad Core Q8300 cpu so far and I just got it. It even speed up my browsing web page loading speeds. I sure am noticng the speed between my dual core and this quad core. EDIT: Why is my heat so high? Image
Does it take time for the thermal paste to spread around? I just put the thermal paste in the middle instead of using the credit card trick to spread it around.
EDIT 2: It Went down 67*C like 20 minute after start up of my computer.
EDIT 3: Temps are rising again to 71-91*C Here is the picture of my new intel C2Q in my pc Image
Answer #6
by not spreading the heatsink compound with a credit card, it could be too thick. anything thicker than .001 inch degrades the thermal transfer properties. and temperatures of greater than 71.4C will damage the CPU permanently. http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_2/Intel-Core%202%20Quad%20Q8300%20AT80580PJ0604MN%20-%20AT80580PJ0604ML%20(BX80580Q8300).html

Intel chips go with intel boards only AMD chips go with AMD boards only please read the specs of the board to decide yourself like someone said without the board make and model can’t Help!

You do realize an intel Pentium E5400 and a Intel quad q8300 is the same processor socket right because if it wasn’t the intel quad wouldn’t work on my pc duh. Anyhow I put my old pentium fan and heat sink on my new quad core cpu and the heat automatically went down to 40-43*C WOW!!!! The new cooler sucks even thought it looks newer and better it just sucked worst than my old cpu cooler fan.
with old fan and heatsink.

Quad core will produce more heat than a Dual core / If you applied the Thermal compound to the chip or Heat sink correctly which ever way you did it there is no real correct way but the careful way plus have you gotten a good CPU cooler ie. Heat sink is your case well vented I have 13 Fans in mine WoW I know but i have an AMD 8350 8 Core overclocked using a Noctua DH 14 CPU fan and heat sink looking at my temps I’m getting 34 Celsius right now also consider room temps as well etc. etc.
Those temps are to high m8 consider what i have written and check or say

Have you read the post I just posted before you? The old fan and heatsink is better than the fan and heatsink given to me with my new processor.

Well I’m only trying to Help! m8 Because I build computers for a living and I would have replied sooner but these bloOdy forums are playing up due to migration etc etc and the fact there servers can’t cope.
Don’t be so Hasty or otherwise you asked for Help! i gave my opion which was correct your CPU fan and heatsink Bingo glad to have help!ed and glad ya happy good night

No problem but the I don’t know what I can do with the new heat sink lol since it sucks at cooling. Maybe I can sell it for like $10, maybe it might give better temps for them. Oh I forgot to mention the new cpu it didn’t come with no brackets or anything. My old cpu heatsink had spring screws and the new cpu headsink has push in tops maybe that’s why.
Answer #14
Maybe the fittings then..
It is important that the heat sink has a firm even contact with the CPU.
I used to have problems with an old 478 pin socket, where the frame actually pulled away from the motherboard
and hence it would loose proper contact pressure and overheat..
Anyhow you have done well…I thought that CPU would be a lot better than the old one

The quad core does help a tiny bit in gaming even with my old geforce 9600 card lol plus I just added an 120GB ssd to my desktop so its way faster. Yeah when I looked at the heatsink when it was on my processor the heatsink wasn’t touching it so it didn’t give it any cooling much so no choice but to use my old heatsink which is not to bad. Like I said I didn’t get any brackets with the new heat sink+fan and the heatsink+fan is a push top and my original cooler had spring screws.

I would imagine the best fan would be to use a fan that you can control with a remote control like this one http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/store/product/Lasko-reg-32-Inch-Tower-Fan-with-Remote-Control/1017964062?Keyword=fan. I am thinking bout changing my case later but first graphics card got to go to a new one soon.

With the Antec case in the link I have I can control the three front fans with a little red round knob on the front of each door x3 doors so can have high or low speed And the top two fans which are hard to see from the Antec website pics I control from the rear with slider switches same for rear two can control also high or low so really goo case i bought put a lot of thought into buying that case because it’s large plenty of room for installing extra drives fits a big 1 foot long GFX card no problem and is well airy love the window can see the Red L.E.D lights emitting from front and rear fans and emitting from the Creative sound card as well…
Lasko 32-Inch Tower Fan with Remote Control / lol had a similar fan hated it no good
