What AV/Antispyware/Malware/Internet security do you use?

January 22nd, 2020

Hello all just a quick question really as it is nice to get a different point of view. I currently use avast free anti virus windows 7 firewall and malwarebytes free to protect my system, I do also have a router but then who hasn’t these days. I would like your preferred security setup and what you currently use on your system and why. Thanks for you time and please leave a post to see how diverse and if there is much diversity with peoples security setups.
Take care all

I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security because it has lowest level of detecting false positive virus/trojan or whatever is it called. One could argue that it’s better for a security to detect false positives and to be sensitive, rather than for it to be less annoying but not so sensitive. Generally it’s better to have too much than too little.
I use MSE and Webroot SecureAnywhere. I would highly recommend Webroot as a pay for solution. And, I do pay for it – it’s not a pirated copy.

Answer #7

I agree.
But that also depends on user who will use this or that AV/IS.
It all depends does the AV/IS you are using, does it suit you for what you need.
Also, do you agree with decisions when AV decides to remove something, especially if it doesn’t ask you.
I think that I’ve tested all AV/IS programs available.
And KIS was and will be my choice only because all cracked programs I’m using i.e. their crack/keygens KIS doesn’t detect as something nasty where all other AV/IS I’ve tested,
they removes those crack/keygens – some of them without asking, some of them with too much asking.
Where IMO KIS makes the right choices.
Maybe some crack or keygen I have is nasty but I’ve never had any problem with any of them.
And other things I like – blocking malicious url, its firewall etc.
Cheers

I was going to say that I suppose it depends on what type of user you are and how competent you are. I would always air towards the side of caution, but I suppose if you’re literate to know when something isn’t quite right and are able to spot viruses, and you know how to avoid them, it isn’t so critical. For the average user though, I would still say it’s better to get false positives than for some clever viruses to go by undetected.
In answer to your question though, I don’t believe anything should remove a ‘virus’ without asking, no. Even if it is definitely a virus! However, not all AVs that detect false positives remove things without asking. I know that Webroot never has! Personally, I would never choose an AV based on false positives but everyone is entitled to their own opinions.
I am very happy with MSE and Webroot anyway. They offer everything KIS do, and I’ve never had a problem with them.

This! Most of them don’t block bloatware or adware out of the box for eset you have to enable detection of “potentially unwanted software”
