Unable to delete some files…

August 5th, 2016

So as the title says, I can’t delete a couple of video files. They were downloaded from this user
http://www.google.com?t=17227029&highlight=
I cant rename the files or delete them, it gives me a message saying action cannot be completed coz the file is open in Windows Explorer I’ve tried deleting them when I first boot up my laptop (before doing anything else), ive even tried in Safe Mode.
The attributes of the files aren’t ‘hidden’ or ‘read-only’, in the Security section, it shows I have full control.
This has been bugging me for about a week now

Answer #1
try to delete using unlocker
(freeware)
http://www.emptyloop.com/unlocker/
Answer #2
“close” explorer, task manager, run, browse to the files and “delete” if you can. also, unlocker is a great tool for this kind of problem.
Answer #3
WTH I almost deleted all my recently downloaded files, Unlocker is quite confusing tbh
Answer #4
^what’s so confusing about it? install it, make sure it’s installed properly, go to the file you want deleted, right click and choose “unlocker” either delete, rename or move the file. saying that, you have to make sure it’s added the shortcut when you right click. I use the “portable” version and never had a problem with it.
you’re obviously doing something wrong.

Answer #6
ALL my files have been deleted, is there any way to get em back?
Answer #7
If they were deleted from a secondary (non-OS) partition, Use this app:
http://www.google.com?t=18461279
But if they were deleted from the OS partition [C:] then turn off your computer immediately, And download/burn
this app from another computer:
http://www.google.com?t=18116009
It’s a bootable data recovery app.
Do keep in mind that data is only recoverable til overwritten, And due to this reason, You should AVOID downloading/copying/creating any new files on the affected partition! (And for the same reason, You have to recover your data to a different partition or hard drive!)
Be more careful next time!
I’ve used unlocker dozens of times and never had this problem.
Also, I suggest you start working on a backup plan, Most people just don’t appreciate the importance of it
til a disaster happens!
Answer #8
Thanks for the help Roberto but its a lost cause, that software would only recover about 40% of what I deleted. Im gonna have to download all those files again
Unlocker deleted all files that were in folders, I have the names of the folders so I know what im missing
I usually have System Restore, but it said I had no restore points, somehow all my restore points got deleted
Im in a worse position than I was when i created this thead
Answer #9
It’s possible you haven’t noticed it, But the software I suggested (File Scavenger) can do either a Quick or a Long scan!
Now, If you only did a quick scan, That is probably why it only found some of your files and not all.
Unless you overwrote some of your data, It should be fully recoverable!^
And just so you know – System Restore has NOTHING to do with backup of personal data, It only backs up the registry & key system files (Such backups are usually triggered automatically when you install Windows updates or certain applications in case something goes wrong) Better get yourself an external HDD and use a good backup app. Consider using Online backup too as an additional measure.
