Unable to move files from External HDD
December 2nd, 2013
When I tried to copy it, it say “Cannot read file from the source”. I can freely move the file within the external HDD with no problem. Only problems seems to be when I tried to move them away from the HDD and make a duplicate copy if those files.
I even tried to RAR them, but resulted in fail.
I can delete remove them to Recycle bin, and restore them fine.
Tried to do the same thing on my other machines run XP, resulted the same things.
Strangely those files play perfectly and the drive passed the chkdsk with no errors.
Very confused atm.
I am using Windows 7 Ultimate.
Just wanted to make a copy of them to another drives, dont mind to delete the original as long as I can back them up to another drives.
When you say it passed chkdsk, did you run chkdsk /f or /r
If you are using NTFS you can also chkdsk /x (forced dismount and repair)

yea the External HDD passed it with no problem.
But it does say “The second NTFS boot sector is unwriteable.”
Download and run a drive diagnostic tool from the externals manufacturer.
I believe the second boot sector (a copy of the main one) is in the centre of the logical drive.
I’ve looked arounf the Microslop site, but all they seem to be recommending is format it.
I’ll have a think about this one, I am just going out now anyway, hopefully someone may help you in the meantime
