Playstation 3 problem
January 22nd, 2020
i bought a NTSC J 40 GB PS3,and i bought a PAL GTA 4 with it…
problem is,when i went home,i tried to play GTA on my TV (SD TV,not HD)
the following error message popped up :
“Cannot play this game with current video output”
after a lot of research,i found that my resolution is 480 and the game need 576….or so i thought anyway, i tried it on 3 different TVs (one was a HD LCD,worked in HD but didn’t work in SD) so i went to the store to return it…
when they tried it on the worst SD TV EVER (it was half broken, and very small) it ACTUALLY WORKED i was stunned and since its original and have nothing wrong with it,they refused to return it….
i am now completely lost, can the game run here?
how did it run in the store (their PS was also NTSC-J)
is the problem from the TV or the game or the console itself..?
any help will be appreciated…
thnx in advance..
not saying this will work , have u tried holding down the on button with the playstation off it reset to factory then u can fiddle with the out put , hold button down for 5 seconds will make a funny beep noise , good luck
naah it doesn’t….
i nearly done everything……but at least i wanna know how it worked in the store…
i think the minimum res for the ps3 is 540? not sure because i have an hd tv. (sorry to rub it in)
sorry to rub it in
naah no worries…
the minimum res is 480….but the game got 576 or something…i guess..
Odd…a PAL game cant run on an NTSC PS3, as the formats conflict…
Are you SURE it was an NTSC PS3?
American SDTV’s can’t display PAL SD video.
PAL SD output it 576p, while NTSC SD output is 480i.

The PS3 isn’t region locked so yes he can play a PAL game on an NTSC PS3. I’ve bought NTSC games and played them on my PAL PS3.
Unless you have a TV thats compatible with both NTSC and PAL you will not be able to play PAL games because your TV won’t be able to display it. If you really want to play this game you can get NTSC and PAL compatible TVs for about $99 these days.
NTSC and PAL are different DVD Formats of the game, not of the TV
i dont know if my TV supports PAL or not..
but i had a PAL game (Lair) and it worked fine…: /
NTSC and PAL are different DVD Formats of the game, not of the TV
NTSC and PAL standard definition TV’s still output at different signals though.
Some games might still run however, depending on how they were coded.
Here’s something worth looking at to clear things up:
