Playing HD videos

January 28th, 2020

I have k-lite codec and VLC. when i am playing HD videos, with media player classic the picture sometimes gets broken in places, whereas if i use VLC, the video keeps stuttering the whole time. I have a geforce 8600 card. do i have to do anything to get the video to play using my graphics hardware?

There isn’t anything you have to do to get it to work properly. It seems that your hardware just can’t handle it (the current PC’s I have can’t handle it either). How much RAM do you have? You should probably have over 1.5 GB of RAM. Also make sure there aren’t any other programs open when you are trying to play HD videos (it needs the RAM).

Try intsalling the COREAVC codec, it’s a really good one for HD video.

Just having an HD ready graphics card doesn’t mean it’ll magically get the HD working. Only a few players support EVR renderer and Vista/Windows7 is a prerequisite. If you got a Core 2 Duo or higher with at least around 2.4GHz you would be able to play them smoothly via CoreAVC as the decoder as said. To use the PureVideo HD or similar you not only need a player but a codec that allows to harness the GPUs power. CoreAVC got CUDA but that’s different. Some good small players supporting EVR:
MPC Home Cinema
KMPlayer
Zoom Player
Codecs working with PureVideo HD:
Cyberlink H264 Decoder (need to install PowerDVD)
Intervideo H264 Decoder (need to install WinDVD)
Nero H264 Decoder (need to install Nero Showtime)

What is your computer specs?
If unsure use CPU-Z and look in each tab.
If you can you should screenshot the main tab, the mainboard tab and the memory tab. Use Infranview to take the screenshot.
