Making a laptop become a router.
August 5th, 2016
also i dont care if the speed slows down just asking if someone can teach me or give me a software
thanks
Never heard of this…
dude I don’t think that can happen…
yea it can i seen it done!
the only way to make it work is if you have 2 network cards, one of them can be wireless (or even both).
assuming that you have one LAN and one WLAN, connect the LAN card to the modem, and the WLAN will be the DHCP to all the wireless computers.
install Linux

and most of the other stuff will be getting the settings right.
one thing you need to know: if you want also a wired DHCP so that LAN computers can connect to, you will need another LAN card in the laptop (either get a USB to LAN adapter or have two LAN card on laptop).
and btw, I’ve done it with the first method – it works great

ics works great, but for the firewall I would take something like ZoneAlarm or something like it
I’m assuming you’re connecting to someone else’s Internet Service via your wireless laptop and now you’re seeking a solution to share that Internet access to your other PC.
Connecting your laptop in this manner would not make it a “modem” or an AP (Access Point), which would allow you to share the Internet with another wireless device.
In this scenario, you either need an AP or Bridge to connect to Internet.
Both are more expensive than purchasing a Wireless USB device for your other PC.
exactly what i want. make my laptop share the internet service with my other computers using a router
so can anyone help me?
I am going to try it, I will let you know how it goes
any luck?
Sounds like Internet Connection Sharing or setting up a Proxy Sever. Would require 2 network cards in the PC with the live connection..
El cheapo, buy a router for 50 bucks.
lol I think you can actually get a decent router for 25$.. Sounds more like this guy wants to War Drive and do some crazy things thru someone elses internet connection.. Now that I re read his question..
ok i seen this done but i dont know how. the thing is that i have a router and a laptop that picks up wi-fi and i would like to connect my router to my laptop. making my laptop becoming like a modem. so i can get internet with my other computer without buying a wireless card.
Where is this internet connection coming from? If the Laptop is picking up a wireless connection, wouldnt it have to be connected to a device that is broadcasting a wifi signal? Maybe a ” Router ” is not the only thing that he needs to purchase.. I cant wait to see a response to this. lmfao
” Mabye Im The One Who Is The Schizophrenic Psycho, Yeah.. . . ”
and i would like to connect my router to my laptop...
Sounds like he has a non wireless router.
Yeah but.. lool and I quote..

If he has a non wifi router where is this ” wifi ” connection he is ” connecting ” to coming from?? loool
Again.. ” Mabye Im The One Who Is The Schizophrenic Psycho, Yeah.. . . ”
looooooooooooool

i tryed this with my next door friend and it worked!!!!!!!!!!!
Why did you bump a months-old post?
And also, this is pretty simple if you’ve got your own modem with a single port, provided the other computers have wireless adapters (as should the laptop in question). All you really need to do is connect an ethernet cable (preferably a high-end one) from your modem to the laptop. Then run network setup on all the other machines and make them connect to the laptop. And there ya go.
