IDM is making my laptop really slow and laggy

August 4th, 2016

As per the title, I’ve always been using IDM and have had this problem, but its really starting to get annoying now. Im guessing there is a way to fix it.
It only happens when the download is complete and it says ‘appending all file parts’ (something like that) and I can barely use my computer during this time, videos (already on my laptop) won’t play and websites will load very very slowly
So is there any ‘fix’ for this problem?
(I don’t think updating IDM will fix this problem as it has never worked in the past, im currently using 6.19)

Answer #1
try a different dl program to see it’s IDM related…myself I use MiPony, never an issue.
Answer #2
The only way to “fix” it is to stop using it. Download managers get files in segments and then have to assemble the segments into one file. The HDD is reading and writing as fast as it can and IDM is using all the resources it can. I use three drives for IDM. Boot drive with IDM installed, 2nd drive for temp files and 3rd drive for assembled file. It’s just the “nature of the beast”.

Isn’t IDM the only one that puts files back together. When i use DownloadThemAll, file is instantly together on completion. So try using that and see how you go.

DownloadThemAl
+1 for Downthemall FF addon.
Best downloader I’ve used.
