Router To Router Setup (Urgent)

January 22nd, 2020

Hey :
1st lemme say that neither me nor my friend know anything about router to router setups, so we need to know a few things. He’s got a TP-Link W542G v4 wireless router, and a D-Link wired router, he wants to setup a 2 router environment and in the TP-Link config subnet can only be set as 255.255.255.0 or 255.255.0.0 nothing else …
How do we set things up so all his 4 PCs work as well as wireless connection for iPhone ?
P.S : D-Link HAS to be the one connected to Internet via WAN …. Not TP-Link !
Please help !

Answer #1
Internet -> D-link -> TP-link
Make sure you turn off the ability for the tp-link to act as a DHCP server and then give it an IP address within the same range as the d-link router.
Answer #2
I will need super specific details .. That just won’t do as we figured that much out already …
IP address of the TPlink IS out of range of the DHCP of the D-link and that subnet mask of the TPlink is NOT customizable
Answer #3
Internet -> DLink WAN port -> DLink switch port -> TPlink WAN port
Leave DHCP turned on for both routers. Both must be different networks. You can not have the same network address on both sides of a router.
By definition, a router connects two different networks. DHCP broadcasts should not pass between networks.
D-Link: WAN IP from ISP – Network – 192.168.0.0 255.255.255.0 – LAN IP 192.168.0.1 – DHCP pool: 192.168.0.3 – 192.168.0.100 (do not include .2 in your pool, as it is reserverd for TPlink WAN port)
TPlink: WAN IP 192.168.0.2 – Network – 192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 – LAN IP 192.168.1.1 – DHCP pool: 192.168.1.2 – 192.168.1.100
