Local Disk (C:)Properties

January 24th, 2020

Hi
On the Local Disk Properties at bottom it says “Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties” mine is ticked at the moment and wondering what this is and can I turn it off? http://wiki.ultimatebootcd.com/index.php?title=File:Local_Disk_Properties.png

This is used to quicken your search operations. Having it ticked will greatly boost the time needed to perform a search. If you disable it, searches will be generally longer. This is the only effect.

It basically creates a cache, if you don’t use search very often (if ever in my case, I know where everything is), but seriously if you don’t search very often uncheck it, as it creates a pointless cache file, searches don’t take longer at all, you can disable search in Services and it still doesn’t take any longer.

I turn mine off because the process is just eating cpu.

Thanks Serenity for your help got it disabled now. Is there a website that tells you what other services that can be disabled to help me make my computer quicker?

Its a Win7 guide but most things are general across the Windows board, there are things that you will know you need that he doesn’t so just treat it as a guide, his suggestions are safe.
