Good Quality AVI’s ? Xvid Settings etc ?

August 4th, 2016

Can anyone advise me on What settings to use when converting dvds to avi’s? I have tried most of the leading programs like total video converter, divx author, mediacoder etc but i still cannot seem to get the high quality that people achieve in their rips. i have tried all the auto settings in most of the programs and even used higher settings too but i end up with large file sizes still with questionable quality. I am running Xp on a 2.7gig processor with a gig of ram and have no background apps running. I see 700mb Xvid movies that are top notch quality but cannot seem to do it myself. Is there an Industry Standard program or settings people use?

MeGUI should not be used by noobs. It is totally unsuitable for people who do not know AVISynth. It is not a one click application that a video file can be fed into and the result obtained. It requires some knowledge and research before using.
Unfortunately many people use it incorrectly and do just that.
You would be better off using AutoGK or if you want something with more options, then Gordian Knot.

I would agree with . Use AutoGK. It gives you the option to compress with either divx or xvid and you can set a final size that you want (700mb). This should give you the high quality result that you’re looking for.
