Good tool to split xvid/divx files?

Here’s my question; I’d like a simple tool to cut (and save) scenes from video files . It also needs to handle several different codecs.
It does not need all the bells and whistles, I just need to be able to precisily mark the start and end time then save the resulting clip.
Thanks in advance.
(Freeware would be an added bonus)
