Fallout 3 “unique” crash/freezing?
January 30th, 2020
So I enjoy fallout 3 as much as the next guy, but I seem to have this problem with it, and it seems unique to my laptop alone.
What happens is that the game runs completely fine everywhere…
Everywhere except the Jefferson Memorial. The moment I enter there, something seems to trigger in my computer, and next thing you know anything I do will cause the game to freeze, requiring a task manager end process to close.
This is particularly annoying as those who have played the game know that it is central to the storyline, and features in unskippable missions.
I have run this game on my brother’s laptop which has similar specs without problems.
Here’s the details:
*After entering the Jefferson Memorial (gift store entrance), it takes about 5 seconds for the “trigger” to go off.
*Shooting an enemy, switching a weapon, or getting hit cause the freezing to occur.
*I’ve already done most of the suggested fixes for common crashes including:
-Adding fallout3.exe to ffdshow exceptions
-Reinstalling .NET framework
-Rolling back my graphics drivers
-Updating fallout 3
*The only way to exit fallout 3 when it freezes this way is by using CTRL+ALT+DEL and selecting task manager, then ending the process.
My Laptop Specs:
-Intel i7 3.33GHz dual core processor
-4gb RAM
-Nvidia GeForce GT 330M
-Running 64bit windows 7 home edition
Help is greatly appreciated.
Try and run fallout 3 on a different compatibility such as vista
alot of people seem to have visual glitches and freezing with any type of
64bit operating system, even myself. Wasn’t able to get into megaton without it blackout and freezing. Apart from this there are a few useful suggestions
1)go to appearance and personalization in your control panel
and turn off the aero theme and use the windows 7 basic theme
2)set compatibility mode to Windows Vista RTM, and “run as administrator” on the launcher
