DVD Optical Drive Not Recognized in Windows or BIOS
August 6th, 2016
Ok the drive wont show up in the bios and my computer. The drive works, it opens and closes, can see the light working when its reading the disc.
Ive tried:
Updating the drivers (cant remove the drivers)
changed sata cable
power cable
updating firmware
removed registry files (lower and upper filters)
last thing im thinking is re-installing windows but dont see how that would help since its not showing in the bios :S
im sooo confused. Please help guys.
There’s more than just the drive part – there’s the interface part.
Your drive might be working fine, but the interface between it and your computer might be dead.. or it might be a bent pin,, etc.
try this, in order: power of and open the computer.
pull both cables off the drive and check them for bent pins. check the drive for bent pins.
put cables back and reboot.
still bad? go on.. all good = great!
shut down, open comp.
pull drive data cable from motherboard and replace it in a different port.
reboot
still bad? go on.. all good = great!
take drive OUT and put it in someone else’s computer, coupled up properly
start their comp.
still bad? = throw drive away and buy a new one.
It’s technically a Bluray optical drive, not a DVD drive, although it will read and rewrite dvd’s.
As has mentioned it is probably the Data connection, can you use a different SATA port on your mobo, and make sure that port is enabled in the BIOS. The power connection seems to be fine from your description.
Try using the bullcrap Cyberlink software that came with it to play a bluray disc.
hello guys tried what you have said with no luck i also have no other computer to test it on today i turned on my computer and the disc drive showed up in my computer then i clicked it and my computer stopped responding so i had to shut down my computer because i could not force close my computer
all fixed now
I’d still keep an eye on it and keep a look out for a new one, watch the prices and special offers – I think the controller on th drive might be going flaky..
